Description

In this episode of Coders, I look at some of the things Microsoft touted at this year’s Build conference. The company continues to push itself as the “ultimate” platform, and now wants to provide a system of tools for all developers to use.

To this end, Microsoft detailed Azure improvements that allow web services to scale rapidly, while providing more metrics than ever.

Be sure to look at the quick peek at Visual Studio Code, which runs on OS X and Linux and provides a decent coding environment and debugging tools for Node.js, JavaScript and, of course, TypeScript.

Also, apps took center stage as Microsoft is planning to allow web apps to become Windows Store apps you can sell. And mobile developers currently writing iOS and Android apps got a surprise by learning just how easy it will be to port their apps — although in the video I’ll explain why that’s not as simple as it sounds.

Lastly, Microsoft is making a big push to “make computing personal” and projects like Hololens are a good example, but smaller things like system-wide notifications and Xbox achievements are part of that initiative. I look at a few of these in the video.
