Google Fiber Network+ Router DVR Device Review #GoogleATX

While attending media event at Google Fiber Austin's new office building, Jeff Mucci from RCR Wireless News, received a hands on overview of Google Fiber home router.

Google touted that they had created a home router optimized to provide subscribers with unique user experience. They claim that users will receive over 400 mbps Wi-Fi service today that will grow over time as they improve software. They have developed software stack in-house

The Google designed home DVR records and streams 8 simultaneous videos on 6 different TVs while delivering 500 hours of video storage.

Google optimized router/DVR performance by focusing on two areas:
1) Wi-Fi drivers that runs on top of the firmware embedded on the chip
2) Packet processing so that the packet can move up software stack quickly, be processed, and then routed out of the network

The home router is designed by Google; however, Google outsources the manufacturing to third party.
