Kevin Ashton, a British technology pioneer who cofounded the Auto-ID Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and inventor of the term "the Internet of Things," explains how the excitement in technology shifted from Moore's Law to Koomey's Law.

Koomey's Law is about how much electrical energy is required to complete a computation halves every 18 months. This explains how a smartphone can do more on 8 hours of battery than it used to, thanks to the increase in energy efficiency.
